The Pupil Premium is additional funding allocated to schools. It is determined by the number of pupils who have ever had Free School Meals and those pupils from families in the Armed Forces. From September 2014 all 4-7 year olds are eligible for a free school meal, but the school still receives Pupil Premium Funding for those pupils whose family receive certain benefits.
Pupil Premium Plus is also additional funding allocated to schools to support Looked After Children (LAC) and children adopted from care under the Adoption and Children Act 2002 and children who have left care under a Special Guardianship or Residence Order.
The funding is specifically to target pupils who need it the most and who may require additional support to meet their needs. Of course, not all children in these groups require additional support but it enables the school to fund additional support for any pupil who does.
Please refer to the following website where parents/carers can make online applications for free school meals and/or work out eligibility.
